đ« Breaking Free: Finding Strength in God to Overcome Addiction
Hey Faith Frannn đâletâs talk about something we donât always like to bring up: addiction.
YUP I SAID IT
Whether itâs alcohol, toxic relationships, bad habits, or anything we turn to for comfort instead of God, addiction can weigh us down and keep us from the life Heâs called us to live.
And trust me,
Iâve been there.

For years, I used alcohol to numb my pain and silence the parts of me that were hurting. It wasnât pretty. It was messy, exhausting, and honestly, heartbreaking. There were nights I cried, mornings I couldnât remember, and moments I didnât even recognize myself. I chipped my front tooth once because I fell over a rockâlike girl, I knew God was shaking His head that night. đ
But even when I was over me, God never was. He kept calling me higher. I had to hit that point of complete surrender and say, âGod, I canât do this without You.â And thatâs where my freedom began.
So if youâre in that placeâor know someone who isâI want you to know this: Godâs power is bigger than any stronghold. One step at a time, one prayer at a time, one surrender at a timeâyou can walk in freedom.
Letâs talk about what that looks like, and how you can find strength and healing in Him. đż
The Reality of Addiction: Why Itâs Serious
Addiction isnât just a bad habitâitâs a stronghold. It clouds your judgment, controls your choices, and distances you from who you really areâand who God called you to be.
I remember waking up halfway off my bed with a bunch of angry texts from a man I was dating. Or falling, chipping my tooth, and thinking, âOkay God, You have got to be done with me now.â But He wasnât.
Proverbs 5:22 says, âThe evil deeds of the wicked ensnare them; the cords of their sins hold them fast.â When weâre stuck in cycles of addiction, weâre bound by cords we canât break on our own. But the beautiful truth? Even the strongest chains canât compete with Godâs grace.
Surrendering to God: The Key to Breaking Free
My breaking point was surrender. I was tired of trying to fix myself in my own strengthâit wasnât working. The moment I truly gave it to God, something shifted.
Matthew 11:28 reminds us, âCome to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.â Sis, thatâs not just a verseâitâs an open invitation. God doesnât expect perfection; He just wants your yes. Heâll handle the rest.

A W O R D
Freedom doesnât come overnight, but it comes through daily surrender. Every morning I had to choose obedience over old patterns, prayer over pouring a drink, and grace over guilt.
Practical Steps for Finding Freedom in God
Pray with Intention
Start your mornings by inviting God into your day. Ask Him for strength, peace, and the power to resist temptation. Prayer doesnât have to be perfectâit just has to be real.Seek Support
God never meant for us to fight alone. Find a mentor, therapist, church group, or friend who gets it. You need people who will remind you who you are when you forget.Replace It with Purpose
Breaking addiction leaves an empty spaceâfill it with something holy. Dive into Scripture, start journaling, go for walks, serve others. Do things that feed your spirit instead of your struggle.
Addiction may feel like an unbreakable chain, but Godâs power still breaks chainsâyes, even yours. đđœ When you surrender, pray, and surround yourself with the right support, youâll start to see the freedom He promised unfold in your life.
Remember, sisâGodâs love doesnât leave you in your mess. He meets you there and walks you out of it.
So, are you ready to take that first step? If youâre serious about change, need a prayer, or just want someone to talk toâDM me on Instagram at @TheDaniMilan. Youâre not alone, and your story isnât over.
